The ultimate goal of marketing is to become a household name, meaning that a product should be well known to everyone. Sports marketing has the same goal, except the product is associated with sports such as sports clothing, teams, or sports drinks. In an article titled â€Å"Career and Professional Development: Sports Marketing,† contributors describe the general classification of a sports marketer. The article explains that a sports marketer generally stays at the same level throughout his/her career due to its high satisfaction. Alexandru Mihai writes in his article â€Å"The Strategic Sport Marketing Planning Process† that there are certain steps a sports marketer needs to take in order to have success. My Culture and Old School Traditions Essay It seems as if majority of today’s modern American families have similar lifestyles, beliefs and traditions. Unlike my family the â€Å"Cochran’s†, in which are very particular about our cultures religion, has old school tactics and maintains a very modest lifestyle. As far as I know most of my relatives on both my mother and father side of the family are from southern states: Arkansas, Mississippi, and Tennessee. So considerably, it’s safe to say my family has a southern mentality on just about everything they do. My grandparents were born in the 1940-50’s and they’re pronged to doing things as they were in their day and age and with my mom being a product of them, she acts accordingly. So going to church faithfully every Sunday, Saturday, and Wednesday was a redundant yet, pleasurable activity for my family and me. In our culture Christianity is a passionate topic and they strongly believe in honoring a specific lifestyle. On some of the most exciting holidays like Halloween, Valentine’s Day and even meaningless days that no one really pays attention to like April fool’s day, was not to be celebrated are even acknowledged according to our family’s religion. We had to celebrate those days at church and in high school I was prohibited from wearing make-up, associating with boys, having a cell phone and sometimes even socializing with girlfriend’s over the weekend. So, needless to say my family was pretty cut and dry about their rules and regulations but they had a legitimate reasoning behind it. According to my grandpa, John that type of religious discipline has been performed in our family’s culture for the past sixty years. Along with the generations of self taught, gifted outdoors man that always appeared to be a necessity to their labor job. Of course that included my papa John who was a carpenter and worked on high risers and roads and my father/ uncle’s worked in steel mills. Nevertheless, Hunting and fish was a natural hobby for most of the men in my family’s culture. Considering how the generation of men taught their sons the importance of labor work and how it can support their families. It certainly severed its purpose. As a result our family was proudly able to prepare an abundant amount of fish and other wildly caught meals for the traditional Cochran fish fry’s that took place at least 2-3 times every year. Family fish fry’s and other supper events kind of act as family reunions because the main reasoning of the dinner is to create fellowship with one another and to make sure the family reunites as one. Our culture views motivation, empowerment and support as a critical duty among one another. This traditional gathering has been orchestrated by our great, great ancestors; and the current family still honors the gathering to this very day. I enjoy being a part of my family‘s culture and abiding by our morals and values. Without it I would have not progressed into the humble leader that I have become today. I’m looking forward to more family fish fry’s and strengthening my relationship and bond with relatives. I’ve came to realize that becoming more familiar with my family’s culture has helped me understand a lot about myself, self actions, and most importantly my future.

We have minds, and we will choose for ourselves, whether or not we like it. Marijuana has an excellent medical forte. Marijuana also has a very strong historical significance in the United States. It is now used and has been used for centuries for relieving and helping to cure illnesses. There are also many economical benefits for legalizing marijuana. Thus, marijuana has historical significance, medical uses, and economic benefits. Cultivation of marijuana in the United States dates back some four hundred years. Colonialist planted the first American marijuana crop in 1611 near Jamestown. They grew marijuana for its fiber content. King James I ordered the first ordered the cultivation of hemp in the colonies. A majority of colonial sails, bibles, clothing, and maps were made from hemp. Some historians believe George Washington and Thomas Jefferson grew marijuana and promoted a hemp-base society. Marijuana was first considered a mind-altering substance in the 1920's and 30's. During this time the drug was associated with mexican-american immigrants and African American jazz culture. This changed marijuana's image of being an excellent cash crop to being evil. With these accusations and false propaganda about marijuana leading to crime and being deadly, it was made illegal in 1937. The Marijuana Tax Act of 1937 made it illegal after only two one-hour congress meetings. Most of the information presented in these c ongress meetings has been proven false today by our medical society. Today marijuana remains the third most popular recreational drug in the United States. Even though it has been illegal for sixty years. Government figures say 70 million Americans have smoked marijuana. The majority of these people are hard working law-abiding citizens that should not be treated like criminals. Today state police arrest a marijuana smoker every fifty-four seconds. There are harsh penalties inflicted on marijuana smokers, which include incarceration, loss of license even when not driving, loss of child custody, and loss of public housing. As long as marijuana remains illegal, the United States looses money and effort trying to stop the use of plant that grows from the ground. Marijuana has the capability of being manufactured into twenty-five thousand environmentally safe products. This money making potential is being held from American farmers today. Industrial hemp is known as one of nature's strongest and most versatile crops. The plant can be used in making various textiles, paper products, paints, clothing, plastics, cosmetics, foodstuffs, insulation, and animal feed. France harvests around ten thousand tons of industrial hemp every year. Currently hemp is grown legally in almost every country in the world except America. Hemp produces a much higher yield per acre than common substitutes. Domestic sales of imported hemp are around 35 million dollars per year. The American Farm Bureau states, ?Hemp is one of the most promising crops in half a century.? American industries such as Adidas, Calvin Klein, and Ralph Lauren added imported hemp to their clothing lines. They have found it to be highly profitable. All of these economical benefits hemp has to o ffer and its still considered illegal in the United States. Marijuana makes a large amount of money for our economy legally and illegally. If it were legalized it could make more. Making marijuana illegal looses money for America's government. The government spends twenty-three thousand dollars a year incarcerating nonviolent marijuana offenders. The prohibition of marijuana looses this countries taxpayers 7.5 billion dollars a year. This large amount of funding should be put forth to target violent ones. Legalizing marijuana will help the issue of scarce jail space in this country and it will help stop clogging our country's courts. On top of all these economical benefits of marijuana there are large medical benefits of marijuana. In the 1980's six different states sponsored studies all found that marijuana was an effective anti-emetic and an anti-nauseate for cancer chemotherapy. There were over one thousand patients in these studies.
